Cosmetology
Introduction
Cosmetology is the art and science of beauty care and involves care of the skin, hair, nails, and scalp. To provide these services to the public, people have successfully completed the written and practical examination given by the State Board of Cosmetology in Oklahoma City.
Several terms are used to describe these persons -licensed cosmetologist, hairstylist, operator, and hairdresser. Career options for licensed cosmetologists can vary widely. For example, with a cosmetology license, actual work experience, and additional training, a person can work as a manicurist, sculptured nail technician, esthetician, research technician for a cosmetics manufacturer, salon owner, consultant, haircutter, men's hairstylist, makeup artist, color technician, or shampooer.
ELIGIBILITY
For studying cosmetology one has to clear 10+2 level. Students from any field can apply for cosmetology.
JOB PROSPECTS
Salons offer positions as cosmetologists who do all aspects of the Cosmetology Profession; or manicurists who perform manicures, pedicures, and apply artificial nails. You can be self-employed by renting a salon booth or by owning your own salon. Positions such as cosmetic chemist, cosmetology instructor, make-up artist, or facialist may be obtained after further education. Work hours can generally be set to fit anyone's schedule due to the flexibility of the trade.
