Simbu Interview

  1. How much did you study?

I am really not the studious type. But I did audio-engineering.

  1. Did you think of it as an alternative career?

No. I was into music at that point of time that’s why I chose audio-engineering. And I wanted to be in films always, that’s why.

  1. What is your all time favoruite song?

Raasathi unna… from ‘Vaidehi Kathirundhal’

  1. Your all time favorite movie?

Note book

  1. What have you learnt from your dad and mom as an artist?

From dad, I learnt how to emote a scene. From mom, I learnt dedication.

  1. What do you do in your free time?

I am always involved in movies. Even in the free time, I am either at the recording studio or at home writing movie scripts.

  1. Given loads of money what would you spend it on?

On movies, I will make bigger movies. I’ll buy more DVDs and watch more movies and I will do a bit of shopping.

  1. A movie is judged by its music, do you think it’s fair?

Absolutely, my own films, ‘Manmadhan’ and ‘Vallavan’ are a super hit because the music was a big hit.

  1. Your dream project?

I always keep dreaming about it. So it’s there in my dreams. Don’t know when it will become reality.

  1.   Are you an action hero or a lover boy?

People who come to watch my movie come because it’s Simbhu’s movie not because it’s an action film or a love story.

  1.   You think we are ready to compete with international films?

Yes, we are. But our market is very small. Our budget is also very low therefore it will take time.

  1.   Have you any idea about the size of the industry?

Yes, it’s nice. But unlike Bollywood, our industry must grow up more. Now Bollywood movies are Becoming bigger, They have subtitles and now approaching an international market.

  1.   Tell me one thing that you would like to change in the industry?

There’s nothing that can be changed. But we need to understand our audience more and give them. What they want. I am not here to change anything. I am here only to entertain people.

  1.   Do you think T.V is posing a threat to cinema?

Not at all. T.V has more reached. Everybody watch T.V. though I am in films, more people recognize me after Jodi No.1. But T.V will survive only because of cinema. One cannot watch serials all the time. You need cinema to keep T.V going.

  1.   Do you think actors have minimum self life?

Not actually. Once you prove yourself I don’t think you stagnate.

  1.   Do you think it’s constantly necessary to reinvent yourself or stick to an established image?

I don’t think so. I think you can reinvent yourself. But once audience puts you in pattern it’s slightly tough to break it.

  1.   Do you think Cinema has a social cause?

No. Cinema is an entertainment media. That’s why you pay entertainment tax. I don’t think it’s necessary for cinema to educate you.

  1.   Are you an independent person?

Yes.

  1.   What does independence mean to you?

My parents have given me the independence. The trust me and I am open.

  1.   One good lesson you have learnt from the industry and one bad lesson you have learnt from here?

Only success matters here. It’s not about your talent or hard work. It’s not like if one works hard you can succeed. Only if you succeed you’ll be accepted else people will walk over you.

  1.   Some movie you want to make in Tamil?

I want to remake James Bond movies. ‘Sometime’, ‘Indiana Jones’ etc.

  1.   What do you do to pamper yourself?

I relax. I listen to music.

  1.   What depresses you?

May be love.

  1.   What is love according to you?

Love is a great melody but its lyrics are totally messed up.

  1.   Do you think substance is more important than from?

It really depends. I cant say.

  1.   What is friendship?

Friendship is a great thing.

  1.   What does marriage mean to you? Do you believe in the institution called marriage?

I do. But today it’s all gone. India has become the record highest in the divorce rate.

  1.   Are you superstitious? What is your biggest superstition?

Yes I’ am kind a superstitious. I believe that my films succeed more if they release on Diwali.

  1.   Something small that makes you really happy?

If a small child imitates my style I feel very happy.

  1.   One hero you like a lot?

M.R Radha. I think he is an extremely unique and talented. I adore him.
